This course discusses the types of electronic media children are exposed to and identifies the effects media can have on their growth and development. It discusses media violence and reviews effective strategies to use with media-traumatized children. Media advertising and the impact it has on children is discussed, along with ways to combat its influence. The purposes of the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) are discussed. Media safety and security guidelines and technologies are identified. Media rating scales are detailed, along with strategies for controlling children’s media use.
