Child safety is the most important aspect of child care. Children must be provided a safe and age-appropriate environment in which to play and learn. Child care providers should understand general requirements for keeping children safe in the child care facility. This lesson discusses general safety guidelines and procedures, common safety hazards, and best practices for diminishing or preventing such hazards. It also discusses basic principles of food safety, including preparation, storage, and waste disposal; and fire safety and prevention, including fire extinguisher use.

    • After reading about indoor safety, participant will be able to recall safety guidelines for indoor areas, including kitchens, bathrooms, and general play areas through a multiple-choice quiz.
    • After reading about outdoor safety, participant will be able to recall fall surfacing guidelines for outdoor play areas through a multiple-choice quiz.
    • After reading about fire safety, participant will be able to recall fire safety guidelines for child care facilities through a multiple-choice quiz.
